The Frenchman was unruffled by his ninth-fastest time in practice as gate-choice is relatively unimportant at the Scandinavian track, the long, wide opening turn offering the opportunity to sweep spectacularly around the outside. And, as in previous years, that is precisely what the Kawasaki rider did to emerge fifth and immediately give chase to the leaders. Setting the fastest laps in the field through the opening laps he completed two spectacular passes to take over third place, his eventual finishing position, by lap five.
 
Romain Febvre: "I got a good start but I still didn't feel completely comfortable with the track today. It had dried out a lot after the rain yesterday but it was still quite slippery. My riding was not great but we know what we have to change for tomorrow."
 
KRT teammate Jeremy Seewer, seventh-fastest in Timed Practice, didn't get the best jump out of the gate in Qualifying to complete the first lap ninth but he too found a good pace to quickly advance to seventh. He continued to push with a clever pass for fifth on the final lap, just running out of time to mount a further pass as he missed fourth by just a third of a second.
 
Jeremy Seewer: "I just messed up my start today, but my riding was positive and I made good passes to come back from P10-12. My speed was good and I will try to keep that for tomorrow. The track was already quite dry for our Quali after all the rain yesterday; I like this track and there's a reason that I've won a few GPs here so I hope I can make it happen tomorrow."
 
Bike It Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team's Bobby Bruce took a solid seventeenth-placed start in the Qualifying race but he was soon eliminated after landing on his shoulder in a first lap fall. His Bike It teammate Jack Chambers posted thirteenth-fastest time in Timed Practice for the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship round and pushed forward quickly from thirteenth to eleventh in the Qualifying race before a fall cost him seven positions as he challenged for top-ten on his return to GP action after missing the previous round due to a concussion last month. A solid recovery saw the American fight back to thirteenth at the chequered flag.
